JOB SUMMARY:
The Clinical Applications Specialist II serves as a subject matter expert (SME) for clinical applications and EHR systems across the organization. This role provides advanced support, leads system optimization efforts, collaborates with cross-functional teams on complex projects, and plays a key role in planning and executing clinical system implementations. This role requires availablity for some weekend and evening coverage.
The Specialist II regularly partners with clinical leadership, IT, and external vendors to ensure applications function seamlessly, support organizational strategy, and meet regulatory and security requirements. This position requires deeper technical capability, stronger autonomy, and the ability to mentor Tier I Specialists.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- System Implementation & Integration
- Lead portions of clinical application implementations, upgrades, and major optimization initiatives.
- Perform advanced application configuration, system design validation, and cross-module troubleshooting.
- Coordinate and manage UAT cycles, test scripts, and resolution of defects.
- Partner with IT to support API integrations, interoperability workflows, and data exchange with third-party platforms.
- Assess downstream workflow impacts and ensure high-quality adoption across clinical teams.
- Current systems include eClinicalWorks, Luma Health, and emerging platforms as assigned.
- Advanced Application Support & Maintenance
- Serve as an escalation point for Tier I Specialists and frontline clinical staff.
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues involving workflows, templates, system performance, data mapping, and integration failures.
- Establish best practices for change control, configuration management, and release readiness.
- Work directly with vendors to analyze recurring issues, identify root causes, and ensure sustained improvements.
- Training, Documentation & User Enablement
- Develop and maintain comprehensive training resources, including advanced workflows, provider-specific tools, and role-based guides.
- Conduct training for new programs, configurations, and system enhancements, including targeted provider coaching.
- Partner with operational leaders to ensure documentation aligns with clinical quality, compliance, and organizational priorities.
- Process Improvement & Optimization
- Lead workflow assessments and recommend system changes that improve efficiency, provider experience, and data quality.
- Conduct stakeholder interviews and analyze application usage patterns to identify inefficiencies or training gaps.
- Assist in shaping roadmap priorities by translating clinical needs into structured technical requirements.
- Support compliance initiatives, including HIPAA, audit readiness, and data governance standards.
- Data Management, Reporting & Analytics
- Build and maintain intermediate-level reports, dashboards, or SQL queries to support clinical operations.
- Validate dataset accuracy, conduct root-cause analysis on discrepancies, and collaborate with BI teams to enhance reporting assets.
- Support quality initiatives by ensuring data integrity for care gaps, regulatory metrics, and clinical performance indicators.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding of healthcare workflows, quality measures, and clinical documentation standards.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills for EHR workflows, data integrations, and configuration-based issues.
- Ability to interpret and modify system configuration tables, templates, and rule-based logic.
- Experience with SQL, analytics platforms, or reporting tools.
- Working knowledge of interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR, APIs).
- Ability to independently manage projects, timelines, and cross-functional communication.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with clinicians, leadership, and technical teams.
- Ability to coach or mentor Tier I colleagues and improve team efficiency.
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Preferred: Certification in eClinicalworks.
EXPERIENCE:
- 3–5+ years supporting clinical applications and eClinicalworks.
- Demonstrated experience in system configuration, workflow optimization, and cross-functional project coordination.
- Prior experience conducting training, user enablement, or process redesign.
- Experience supporting interoperability or data integrations strongly preferred.
- Experience with Phreesia preferred.
