JOB SUMMARY:

The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to provide rehabilitative care to patients recovering from injuries, surgeries, or medical conditions that affect mobility and function. The PTA assists in implementing treatment plans, guiding patients through therapeutic exercises, and monitoring progress to ensure effective rehabilitation. This role requires strong patient interaction skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to high-quality patient care.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists the Physical Therapist in executing treatment plans designed to improve mobility, strength, and overall function.
  • Guides patients through prescribed therapeutic exercises and activities to promote recovery.
  • Applies modalities such as heat, cold, ultrasound, or electrical stimulation under the direction of the Physical Therapist.
  • Observes and documents patient progress, reporting changes to the Physical Therapist.
  • Educates patients and caregivers on home exercise programs and injury prevention strategies.
  • Ensures the proper use of assistive devices such as walkers, canes, and braces.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe treatment environment.
  • Complies with state regulations, facility policies, and ethical guidelines for patient care.

Other Duties:

  • Assists with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and updating patient records.
  • Participates in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Supports community outreach and patient education initiatives.
Requirements

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Strong understanding of therapeutic exercises, rehabilitation techniques, and patient care protocols.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective patient interaction
  • Ability to follow treatment plans and adapt therapy techniques as needed.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Compassionate and patient-focused approach to care.
  • Physical stamina to assist patients with mobility exercises.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS :

  • Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) program required.
  • State licensure or certification as a Physical Therapy Assistant (as required by state law).
  • CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 1-2 years of experience in a physical therapy or rehabilitation setting preferred, but new graduates with strong clinical training will be considered.
  • Experience in outpatient, orthopedic, or geriatric physical therapy settings is a plus.
